Falling in line with the existing Canadian iPhone 14, 15 and 16 series, Apple’s brand new iPhone 16e will still feature a physical SIM card slot in Canada.
While U.S. iPhone 16e owners will need to set up their devices with digital eSIM cards, Canadians have the option to use a traditional SIM card or the newer eSIM depending on what their carrier offers.
That said, if you are offered an eSIM, most carriers will send or sell you a physical SIM card if you really want one.
Apple dropped the physical SIM card slot in the U.S. in 2022 alongside the launch the iPhone 14 series. This led to speculation that the iPhone might be leading a global push towards eSIM cards, but three years later it seems that the tech giant is content with having separate SIM and eSIM models for different countries.
The new iPhone 16e is coming to Canada at the end of February and offers a vast majority of the iPhone 16 features for $230 less than an iPhone 16. That said, there are some tradeoffs and you can read more about them in our announcement post.
