The Last of Us Season 2 gets April premiere date

The second season of The Last of Us will premiere on April 13th, HBO has confirmed. The series streams exclusively on Crave in Canada.

Based on The Last of Us Part II video game, The Last of Us Season 2 follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) five years after the events of the first season. The characters find their relatively peaceful lives in Jackson disrupted when they encounter a mysterious new faction of survivors, including Abby (Kaitlyn Dever).

Other confirmed cast members include Gabriel Luna (returning as Tommy from Season 1), Isabela Merced (Ellie’s love interest Dina), Young Mazino (Ellie’s friend Jesse) and Jeffrey Wright (reprising his The Last of Us Part II role as militant leader Isaac). Toronto’s Catherine O’Hara will also appear as an unnamed character who appears to be some sort of therapist for Joel.

The Last of Us was created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the latter of whom is the co-creator of the eponymous PlayStation video games. Both also serve as writers and directors on multiple episodes of the new season.

It’s worth noting that The Last of Us Season 2 was filmed in and around Vancouver, while the production was set in Alberta for the first season. Mazin has previously said that multiple seasons will be required to fully adapt The Last of Us Part II, which was significantly longer and more narratively ambitious than the first game. Most recently, Francesca Orsi, HBO’s top programming executive, suggested the series will run for four seasons total.

Graphically enhanced versions of The Last of Us Part I and Part II are now available on PS5. The Last of Us Part I is also available on PC, with a port of The Last of Us Part II Remastered coming on April 3rd.
