For months, rumours have persisted about a particularly thin “Air” addition to this year’s expected iPhone 17 series. In January, we heard that the phone would measure in at under 6mm, which would make it even thinner than Apple’s slimmest handset, 2014’s 6.9-mm iPhone 6.
Now, we have a better idea of just how much thinner the 17 Air might be. In a post on Weibo, well-known leaker Ice Universe, via machine translation, said the 17 Air’s camera bulge would be 4mm of the phone’s total 9.5mm. In other words, they’re suggesting the body itself, minus the camera, would be 5.5mm.
Last week, YouTuber iDeviceHelp also shared a video featuring 17 Air mockups in collaboration with prominent leaker Majin Bu, who published their own similar renders last month.
Of course, it’s only March, and Apple’s new flagship iPhones typically don’t drop until September, so we have a while to go still.
For now, all we can go off of is the rumours and mockups, which indicate the 17 Air will sport a similar design to the current iPhones, including the same placement of USB-C port, speaker holes and frontal Dynamic Island and Face ID.
In the meantime, the company just released the iPhone 16e, its latest iteration on the entry-level SE line. MobileSyrup has a full review of the device.
