As Nintendo fans eagerly await the company’s Switch 2 Direct next month, Best Buy Canada just revealed when the highly anticipated console will be available to pre-order.
In a now-removed blog post, the electronics retailer said that pre-orders “will open on April 2nd at Best Buy Canada,” the same day as Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct presentation. Best Buy didn’t specify what time pre-orders would open, but it did share a link to a web page where customers can sign up for notifications when pre-orders go live.
Update March 28 at 1:59 p.m. ET: New information from Insider Gaming Network indicates the April 2 pre-order date shared by Best Buy Canada might not be accurate. Per U.S. retail documents obtained by Insider, Switch 2 pre-orders will open on April 9 — one week after the Switch 2 Direct. As with any leak, it’s worth staying skeptical, but the report does cast some doubt on Best Buy’s information.
Best Buy did share a reminder that the Direct stream will start at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET and included a link to watch it.

Beyond that, the blog post reiterated some information we already know about the console (though to be fair, it’s still precious little). The retailer said the Switch 2 will support physical and digital Switch games, though some titles may have compatibility issues. Still, the backwards compatibility means people can bring their game library with them when they jump to the Switch 2.
Speaking of games, the only title we know of so far is a new Mario Kart, which was teased in the Switch 2 reveal trailer. Hopefully, Nintendo will show off more games during the Direct presentation.
Best Buy also reiterated some of what we know about the Switch 2 design, such as the new magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a U-shaped kickstand, and extra USB-C ports.
Of course, there’s still a lot we don’t know about the upcoming console, namely, the price. Rumours have indicated it could cost over US$400 (roughly CAD$573) with a possible June launch and that Nintendo will have millions of Switch 2 units ready for day one. Other leaks have indicated the console will support Wi-Fi 6 and NFC and that the Joy-Cons could have mouse-like capabilities.
