The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5, and several third-party titles and some first-party titles will receive a Nintendo Switch 2 makeover. One of the new features of the Nintendo Switch 2 is GameChat.
According to Nintendo’s website, GameChat will be available for free until March 31, 2026. After this date, you must purchase Switch Online to use GameChat. A Nintendo Switch Online membership costs $24.99 per year; however, there are different subscription prices if you want the Expansion Pack or want to pay monthly.
The Nintendo Switch 2 lets up to 12 people chat while playing games together. You can share your screen in real time, even if you’re playing different games. You’ll be able to use the built-in microphone whether you’re in TV mode, tabletop mode or handheld mode. And unwanted noises, including game sounds, are automatically filtered out.
Additionally, if you purchase the USB-C camera (sold separately), you’ll be able to see each other while playing with GameChat. You can also easily pull up GameChat with the Joy-Con’s new ‘C’ button.
PlayStation and Xbox gamers have had their version of game chat for years, so it’s crazy that it’s taken Nintendo so long to do this. However, it looks like they’ve put some thought into how to include GameChat in games.
