We’ve heard a lot about Apple’s plans to refresh the look of iPadOS/macOS this summer, but the latest rumour from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests the company is going to revampĀ iPadOS more than most.
This includes a suite of productivity, multitasking, and window management improvements. Gurman says the goal is to make the iPad work more like a Mac, which iPad power users have been craving for a long time. It won’t be full macOS on iPad, but it should be a big step in the right direction.
I, for one, am excited about this after using the M4 iPad Pro all year. That machine really flies and it’s so small and portable, making it a real treat to travel with. If Apple could improve the multi-window support and external monitors, that would be a big win in my books.
On top of that, I’d love to see more consistency in multitasking and overall use. Right now, there feels like multiple ways to do various multi-tasking schemes and I think it would be ideal for Apple to narrow that down to whatever is easiest or used most to help make the iPad more straightforward to use.
Other reports are expecting a new M5 iPad Pro to come out around the same time as the new iPadOS giving Apple a shiny new device to demo the updated software. That said, it’s highly likely that all these potential Mac-like features will roll out to all the iPads equipped with M-series chips.
