While Quebecor has a significant market share with Videotron in Quebec, Freedom Mobile is helping expand the company’s share nationwide.
According to a report from Quebecor, the company gained 54,000 new wireless customers in the first three months of the year, which is roughly 45 per cent of all new wireless customers in Canada in Q1.
Quebecor did this with Freedom Mobile, undercutting pricing from rival companies. Additionally, Freedom Mobile began the phased rollout of 3,800MHz spectrum across its 5G+ network in April across Ontario, Alberta, and B.C. This rollout increases network capacity and offers improved connectivity with download speeds that beat 1Gbps.
Freedom Mobile has offered $40/100GB and $60/150GB 5G+ plans, which are less than the competition. Additionally, last year, MobileSyrup’s Brad Bennett reviewed his experience with Freedom Mobile and was very impressed by the Quebecor-owned wireless brand.
Meanwhile, BCE reported that it lost roughly 1,000 net wireless subscribers in the first three months, and Rogers says it added 34,000 net wireless subscribers in the Q1 of 2025. In the same quarter, Telus reported adding 20,000 net wireless subscribers.
