Universal seems to have leaked the name for the next Mario film, Super Mario World.
The title appeared in a press release about Universal’s upcoming content slate, where it was listed as Super Mario World alongside upcoming Shrek and Minions movies. The mentions were removed within hours of publication.
The post-credit scene for the first movie teased Mario’s green dinosaur, Yoshi, who first appeared in the Super Mario World title on the SNES.
The sequel is planned for April 3, 2026 and will be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. The first film made more than US$1 billion (roughly CA$1.3 billion).
The first film, Super Mario Bros., starring Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black and Canada’s Seth Rogen, was suprisingly hilarious. I watched it right after a breakup (literally within hours) and it honestly made my day so much better.
At the time of writing, you can watch the film on Netflix Canada.
