One of the more notable announcements from Microsoft Build 2025 was the company’s Natural Language Web (NLWeb) open project.
The company says it wants NLWeb to be the fastest and easiest way to turn websites into AI apps, which will allow users to query sites using natural language, similar to an AI assistant or Copilot.
NLWeb leverages existing, semi-structured formats like Schema.org and RSS — which many websites already publish — combined with tools powered by large language models (LLMs) to make natural language interfaces that can be used by humans and AI agents.
Further, Microsoft says NLWeb enhances structured data by incorporating external knowledge from underlying LLMs to make richer user experiences.
“Just like the introduction of HTML made it easy for almost anyone to create a website, we want NLWeb to make it easy for any web publisher to create an intelligent, natural language experience for their site,” Microsoft explained in a blog post about NLWeb.
Microsoft also shared a list of initial publishing and ecosystem collaborators, which include:
• Chicago Public Media
• Common Sense Media
• DDM (Allrecipes/Serious Eats)
• Eventbrite
• Hearst (Delish)
• Inception Labs
• Milvus
• O’Reilly Media
• Qdrant
• Shopify
• Snowflake
• Tripadvisor
