A cheaper version of YouTube Premium is now available in Canada after launching in the U.S., which removes most of the advertising from YouTube for $8 per month.
Users might still see ads when watching YouTube Shorts, music content or in while searching or browsing, but most videos should be ad-free.
This service is considerably cheaper than the $14 cost of standard YouTube Premium that comes with YouTube Music streaming and no ads at all. The more expensive plans also have the ability to download content and play videos in the background with picture-in-picture.
Overall, Premium Lite is likely a fine option for most people and the cheapest way to skirt around most of the built-in YouTube advertising. That said, one of the things I love about YouTube Premium is the ability to play videos in the background while my screen is off or while scrolling social media. For that, you need to pay for the more expensive plan, unless you’re a student or on a family plan.
You can subscribe to YouTube Premium Lite for $7.99 per month. There is no free trial with this version.
