Apple has announced Mr. Scorsese, a five-part documentary series about legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese.
Directed by Rebecca Miller (Personal Velocity: Three Portraits), the film will examine the Goodfellas director’s life and career, starting from his New York University student films through to the present day, as well as the themes that have inspired them.
The film will also feature new interviews with many of Scorsese’s collaborators and colleagues, including actors like Robert De Niro (Taxi Driver), Daniel Day-Lewis (Gangs of New York), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Cate Blanchett (The Aviator), writers like Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver) and Jay Cocks (Silence), editor Thelma Schoonmaker (all of his films since Raging Bull) and director Steven Spielberg (Schindler’s List). Scorsese’s family and childhood friends will also be featured.
An Apple TV+ release window for Mr. Scorsese wasn’t confirmed.
In the meantime, it’s fun to consider that Scorsese’s work with Apple dates all the way back to 2012 when he did a commercial for the iPhone 4S and Siri. Of course, Scorsese’s latest movie, Killers of the Flower Moon, was also an Apple production. And finally, Scorsese had a scene-stealing guest appearance in the first episode of Apple TV+’s The Studio comedy series from Vancouver’s own Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
