B.C. getting new 257 area code for phone numbers

If you get a new phone plan this weekend, you might be one of the first with the new area code

There is a new phone area code being added to British Columbia this weekend, joining the five others in the province.

The new code is 257, and it will join the existing 236, 250, 672, 778 and 604 numbers. The new number will start hitting new customers’ phone lines this Saturday. However, the old codes aren’t fully exhausted yet, so you may still get one of those.

The Canadian Numbering Association advised the CRTC in 2023 that the existing B.C. area codes would likely run out in the spring of 2026, and now we are seeing the new code come in to help extend that timeline.
