The new HBO Harry Potter series has cast for Harry, Hermione, and Ron.
Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton have been cast for the three lead roles. McLaughlin will take on the role of Harry Potter, Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” said Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, the showrunner and director of the upcoming TV epic. “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”
Approximately 32,000 kids auditioned for the three leads for the TV project that will be a “decade-long series,” according to Warner Bros. The series is expected to run for seven seasons — one for each of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels.
This will be the first major role for all three actors, as McLaughlin will star in the BBC’s upcoming adventure series Gifted, while Stanton took on Matilda in the London West End’s production of Matilda: The Musical.
Other actors that have been cast for the show include Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
The three actors will now begin preparing for cameras to roll, which is set to happen this summer at the Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England. The first season is set to air on HBO and Crave in 2026.
The series comes amid an increasing push to boycott the Harry Potter franchise amid Rowling’s anti-transgender views.
