Nintendo has revealed three new features coming to Nintendo 64 (N64) games on its Switch Online service, although two of them are exclusive to the upcoming Switch 2 console.
On the one hand, customizable controls will be available on both Switch and Switch 2. However, the arguably more desirable features are locked behind the $629 Switch 2.
First is the ability to rewind gameplay. In a video, Nintendo shows an example of the player missing a jump in Super Mario 64 before rewinding the game a few seconds to re-attempt and ultimately stick the landing.
The second Switch 2-exclusive feature allows you to add a nostalgic CRT filter to games to mimic what they looked like decades ago.
Naturally, many players have criticized Nintendo for locking basic emulation features behind its expensive new console. It should also be noted that these aren’t the only Switch Online features that are exclusive to Switch 2. GameCube titles, which have been highly requested on Switch, will be added to the Switch Online catalogue in June, but only on Switch 2.
