Nintendo sold 3.5 million Switch 2 consoles in its first four days on the market, the Japanese gaming giant has announced.
Notably, this is the fastest-selling Nintendo system to date. On top of that, noted gaming analyst Daniel Ahmad said this would make the Switch 2 the fastest-selling video game console overall.
For context, Sony’s PS5, which was a similarly hotly demanded console, reached 4.2 million units sold in six weeks. (That said, Ahmad notes that PS5 stock was much more constrained amid the COVID-19 pandemic, on top of the PS5 launching in different markets across a one-week period, versus a single-day global release for the Switch 2.)
Still, the Switch 2 is undeniably a big hit for Nintendo. The company has set a 15 million units target by the end of its first year on the market, and this is a good first step toward it. It remains to be seen how well Nintendo will keep up this momentum.
Other games set to come to the Switch 2 later this year include Donkey Kong Banaza (July 17), Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (both TBA). It should be noted that Prime 4 will also launch on the original Switch.
