Xbox is teaming up with AMD to produce a variety of hardware, including its next-gen consoles.
In a short video posted to social media, Xbox president Sarah Bond teased how the tech component manufacturer is bolstering its wider multi-platform gaming strategy.
“At Xbox, our vision is for you to play the games you want, with the people you want, anywhere you want. That’s why we’re investing in our next generation hardware lineup across console, handheld, PC, cloud and accessories,” said Bond. “I am thrilled to share we’ve established a strategic multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices, including our next-generation Xbox consoles — in your living room, and in your hands.”
As Bond talks, we see snippets of Microsoft’s “This is an Xbox” marketing campaign, which includes an Xbox Series X console, the recently unveiled ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X and a TV running Xbox Cloud Gaming. While some were initially confused by that promotional angle, this new video more succinctly illustrates Microsoft’s broader multi-platform gaming approach, as well as how AMD will help empower it.
“Together with AMD, we’re advancing the state of art in gaming silicon to deliver the next generation of graphics innovation to unlock a deeper level of visual quality and immersive gameplay and player experiences enhanced with the power of AI — all while maintaining compatibility with your existing library of Xbox games,” added Bond.
She added that the goal is to allow you to “play the games you want across devices anywhere you want” through an “Xbox experience not tied to a single store or tied to a single device.” She says this is why Xbox is working “closely” with the Windows team to make it the “number one platform for gaming.”
Notably, we’ve already started to see this with the Windows-powered ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, which are confirmed to feature both Xbox’s own ecosystem and third-party marketplaces like Steam and the Epic Games Store. The company has also been bringing many of its games to PlayStation and Nintendo platforms, including, most recently, Gears of War.
For now, rumours indicate that Xbox’s next-gen consoles will launch sometime in 2027. In the meantime, the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X are set to launch this holiday, and the company has teased that it’s only the start of its PC gaming handheld plans.
