A swirl of new iPhone fold rumours have hit the net, including a lot of camera specs and some new stuff regarding the inner display.
We’re expecting Apple to show off this phone in the fall of 2026. Rumours say it will have two rear cameras like an iPhone 16, both with 48-megapixel sensors. What’s notable about this is that it will forgo the telephoto lens that’s on the Pro iPhones, which will put this device in a weird spot in the iPhone hierarchy.
The report also says that Apple is planning to have a separate selfie camera for each front-facing display. Less reliable leakers have also speculated that the innermost camera will be under the display. The outer display’s camera will be the typical iPhone hole-punch, likely surrounded by a dynamic island. If Apple can pull off the under-display camera without a lot of blur or fog like others have had, it will be quite the accomplishment.
The inner display should be between 7.6- and 7.8-inches, while the outer one will be 5.5-inches. The foldable inner display will supposedly use a ‘liquid-metal’ hinge that will be crease-free.
There is also noted to be a Touch ID sensor embedded in the titanium frame, instead of Face ID sensors with the front cameras.
The final note says that the phone will use the same high-density battery as the upcoming iPhone 17 Air. This is likely because each half of the foldable phone should be as thin as the 17 Air.
Only time will tell how Apple markets this device and how much it costs, but I expect it to be the most premium phone Apple makes when it comes out. This is partly because it will need to compete with other foldable phones and Apple’s own iPads in some regards.
