To take advantage of Prime Day deals, you’ll need an Amazon Prime membership. In Canada, Amazon Prime typically costs $9.99/mo or $99/year. However, for Prime Day, Amazon is offering seven days of Prime for only $0.99 ($9.99/mo thereafter).
Notably, Amazon’s Prime trial is usually free and lasts up to 30 days. But in a classic Prime Day move, it seems the retail giant has replaced a decent deal with a worse, more expensive one and branded it as a special offer.
This seems like a great place to remind readers that not all Prime Day deals are what they seem, with retailers often raising prices before the sale and then applying ‘discounts’ to the increased price. And for those who would rather avoid using Amazon for a variety of legitimate reasons (such as shoddy labour practices, environmental concerns, anti-competitive issues, the fact that it’s a massive U.S. tech company, or even just founder Jeff Bezos’ close affiliation with U.S. President Donald Trump), it’s worth noting tons of other retailers launched competing four-day sales. Below is a list of those retailers (though notably, some of them are no better than Amazon):
