YouTube has clarified its policies surrounding monetization of AI videos on its platform.
Recently, changes to the YouTube Partner Program support page regarding “inauthentic” content led people to believe that YouTube was demonetizing videos including AI-generated content. However, the company posted a brief new video by YouTube editorial head Rene Ritchie to explain that this is actually only a “minor update” to existing monetization policies that require users to make significant changes to unoriginal content.
“This kind of content has been ineligible for monetization for years, and it’s content that viewers often consider spam,” Richie explains. Instead, the new policy language is intended to help users “better identify when content is mass-produced or repetitive.”
It’s unclear exactly what the updated policy will entail, as it has yet to be released. July 15 is when these guidelines will be fully updated, so expect to learn more then.
