UberĀ announcedĀ new features intended to make transportation more accessible and intuitive for Canadian seniors.
Starting July 14, Uber offers senior accounts through its ‘Family Profile’ feature, as well as a new ‘Simple mode’ that makes the Uber app easier to use.
People can use Uber’s Family Profiles to make a senior account for an older adult and offer support to those adults when needed. Senior accounts allow for flexible payment options through the use of personal or family payment cards, trip updates for loved ones, and the ability for family members to help seniors book rides. Family members can even contact the Uber driver if needed.

Canadians can set up a senior account by heading to the Account section on their Uber app, tapping ‘Family’ to create a Family Profile, and then tapping Invite Family > Senior > and selecting a contact from their address book. Uber will then text the senior with an invitation so they can get started requesting rides.
Meanwhile, Simple mode brings quality-of-life features to accommodate older adults, such as larger text with fewer buttons, screens that are easier to follow, the ability to store frequent destinations for quick access, and more. It works with a senior account or on its own for more independent seniors.
Simple mode is available to anyone and can also be accessed from the Accounts page in the Uber app. Just scroll down and tap ‘Simple mode’ to activate it.
