Google is working to merge Chrome OS into Android, confirms Sameer Samat, Google’s head of Android. During a TechRadar interview, Samat questioned the journalist about his Apple products, the apps he uses on his laptop, and how he manages them with his iPhone, MacBook and Apple Watch.
“I asked because we’re going to be combining ChromeOS and Android into a single platform, and I am very interested in how people are using their laptops these days and what they’re getting done,” Samat explained.
This seems to be the first time Google has publicly announced its plan to merge the two platforms. Samat didn’t mention any more details, but it was previously leaked that Google plans to combine Chrome OS into Android. The company may also combine the two into an all-new product.
Bringing ChromeOS to Android may mean the system will work better with larger displays, including a desktop mode, and app adaptability. We may find out later this year as Android gets a desktop mode that’s like Samsung Dex when plugged into an external display.
