A Tesla owner in Montreal has been making headlines this week after being swept away in the Prairies River after a botched attempt at getting off a ferry.
A CBC News report mentions that one of the ferry’s mooring lines detached as the cars were disembarking. This caused the ferry to drift and the Tesla fell into the gap.
In video footage shown on CTV News, the car appears to be wedged extremely precariously between the dock and the ferry, but as the ferry tries to help push the Tesla it ends up moving too far away and the vehicle plunges into the river.
The 67-year-old driver is sitting in the car with the door ajar when this happened since he was trying to drive back onto the dock throughout the video. As the car falls he looks absolutely shocked and doesn’t seem to notice the bystanders throwing a rope and telling him to get out of the car. CBC‘s report says he was taken to the hospital and treated for shock.
Honestly, it’s a crazy situation, but by the time he finally abandons ship, he gets caught in the current and is unable to swim back to the ferry.
This owner was probably wishing they would have splurged for the Cybertruck since Elon Musk promised that it can be used as a temporary boat, but maybe that will be his next purchase.
It looks like an older Model 3 in the video, but it’s a little hard to tell and it might be a Model S judging from the sporty angle of the rear window.
The CTV News report mentions that the car was salvaged from the river, but it’s a total loss for the driver.
