Apple TV+ confirms new series from Breaking Bad creator coming in November

"Pluribus" is a mysterious sci-fi series from Vince Gilligan that stars Better Call Saul's Rhea Seehorn

Apple has begun teasingĀ Pluribus, a mysterious new sci-fi Apple TV+ series from Breaking BadĀ creator Vince Gilligan.

On social media, the official Apple TV+ account shared a brief teaser for the show alongside confirmation of a November 7 premiere date. In the teaser, we see a woman licking doughnuts before putting them into a box that says “Help yourself” with a smiley face emoji.

Alongside the teaser, Apple also revealed the first image from the series featuring Emmy nominee Rhea Seehorn, who starred as Kim Wexler opposite Bob Odenkirk (Jimmy McGill) in Gilligan’s Better Call SaulĀ series. (See above.) Apple says Seehorn plays Carol, ā€œthe most miserable person on Earth,ā€ who ā€œmust save the world from happiness.ā€

This teaser comes afterĀ the official Apple TV+ account shared a vague image earlier this week saying “Happiness is Contagious” with a little smiley face being drawn into a petri dish.

It’s a bizarre start to the marketing campaign considering none of this tells us anything about the show. That said, Gilligan’s name alone is undeniably more than enough to garner attention. On top of creating the belovedĀ Breaking Bad, he was also the co-creator ofĀ the acclaimed spin-off seriesĀ Better Call Saul and the writer and director of theĀ El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie film sequel.

We’ve also actually known about this series being in development for three years now, when it was first confirmed that Gilligan was teaming up with Apple for it. It was also reported that Seehorn would star in Gilligan’s new series.

At the time,Ā Deadline reported that the series will be a ā€œblended, grounded dramaā€ that’s been compared to The Twilight ZoneĀ in terms of how it ā€œbend[s] reality and focusing on people and exploring the human condition in an unexpected, surprising way.ā€ Gilligan, meanwhile, said he’s looking forward to moving away from the antiheroes that definedĀ Breaking Bad andĀ Better Call Saul.

It remains to be seen whatĀ PluribusĀ will ultimately end up being and whether any other of hisĀ Breaking BadĀ universe collaborators are involved. Apple has already renewed the series for a second season, though, so it’s clearly confident in it.
