Nintendo Switch hardware and games just got more expensive in Canada

At the end of June, Nintendo confirmed that pricing for the original Switch console, accessories and games would increase on August 1, citing “market conditions.” Now that date has come, and we know exactly how much everything now costs.

See below for the updated pricing. Note that the recently released $629 Nintendo Switch 2 and its games and accessories are unaffected by these price hikes.

• Joy-Cons (pair) — $109.99 (previously $99.99)
• Pro Controller — $99.99 (previously $89.99)
• Most games — $84.99 (previously $79.99)
• The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — $99.99 (previously $89.99)
• Nintendo Switch Sports — $54.99 (previously $49.99)
• Standard Amiibo — $22.99 (previously $21.99)
• Alarmo clock — $139.99 (previously $129.99)

Generally, last-gen products go down in price over time, especially after their successors have launched, which makes this a particularly wild situation. It speaks to the economically unstable time that we’re in, especially amid the tariffs that the U.S. keeps threatening against everyone, including Asian markets in which Nintendo operates and manufactures its products.

For now, at least, Nintendo hasn’t raised the price of the Switch 2 itself, although it did begin charging more for the console’s accessories before launch. That said, there’s nothing stopping Nintendo from increasing the Switch 2 price down the line, which analysts are anticipating.

It should be noted that Nintendo also just confirmed a price increase on original Switch products in the U.S., so it’s not just Canada that’s being affected.
