iPhone 17 Pro may be able to wirelessly charge Apple accessories: report

Recent iPhone models have only allowed you to reverse-charge accessories with a cable

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max may support reverse-wireless charging with other Apple devices.

According to the Weibo-based leaker Fixed Focus Digital, Apple has tested this functionality with its higher-end model in Apple’s next flagship phone series. In theory, this would allow the 17 Pro and Pro Max to charge accessories like the Apple Watch or AirPods. Recent iPhone models have allowed you to reverse-charge accessories using a cable, but not wirelessly.

It should be noted, however, that Fixed Focus Digital only reports that this feature has been tested on the 17 Pro handsets. Therefore, it’s possible that Apple might not end up officially launching it. That said, such a feature would help fill the gap left by the 2023 discontinuation of the MagSafe Battery Pack.

In any event, we’ll likely learn more soon, with Apple having just officially set its iPhone 17 event for September 9. This year, we’re expecting an ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, as well as the base iPhone 17 and the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.
