One of the best features in the Apple ecosystem is the ability to open an app on your phone and then quickly open that same app on your Mac. Now with the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview, that feature is working with Spotify.
We already knew Microsoft was working on a Handoff-like feature for Windows from previous leaks, but now the company has started testing it with users. More apps will ideally come in the future, and I’d expect more Microsoft apps to support the feature by the time it rolls out to the stable version of Windows 11. At the end of the blog post announcing the feature, the company invites app devs to add this ability to their app.
To start, you’ll need to ensure your computer is running the latest Insider Preview. Then go to your computer’s settings, open Bluetooth & Devices, and choose the ‘Mobile devices’ section. Switch ‘Allow this PC to access your Mobile Devices’ to on.
Finally, click on the ‘Manage devices’ button, and the computer will walk you through the steps to link your phone with your PC. If everything is set up correctly, the next time you play Spotify on your phone near your computer, a notification should pop up in the bottom right that connects your devices.
Once you have it set up, you should see the Spotify icon pop up in your Windows taskbar when your phone is playing something nearby.
The Windows blog post mentions that this is rolling out slowly, so it might not be live for all users.
