Telus and Koodo raise connection fee to $80

Telus and its flanker brand Koodo have raised their connection fee to $80. This comes after Rogers and its flanker raised its connection fee a couple of months ago.

This is starting to seem like a yearly experience, as connection fees were increased in August 2024 and then July 2023 the year beforehand. Telus charges this fee for “in-store and call center upgrades and activations” but typically waives it for online purchases.

In May, Bell raised its connection fee to $75, and the Videotron-owned carrier charges a $45 connection fee.

Connection fee hikes aren’t uncommon, with the Big Three carriers all raising prices by $5-$10 on a nearly annual basis since 2013, but how much more can these carriers raise its fees.

There are ways to avoid these fees, so it might be worth learning how to get around these charges when you’re switching phone plans.
