Company that revived the BlackBerry Classic now trying to resurrect the Passport

A Chinese company named Zinwa Technologies is reviving yet another BlackBerry device- this time, the company is focusing on the BlackBerry Passport.

Recently, the company started taking the original BlackBerry Classic and installing hardware to run Android 13 on it. Now that both the mod kits and pre-built units for the Blackberry Classic (now called the Zinwa Q25 Pro) are in mass production, the company is shifting its focus to other products. This time, it’s doing the Blackberry Passport.

While there are the previously mentioned units for the BlackBerry Classic, the Passport unfortunately will not have pre-built units, citing the limited quantity of the device as the main reason.

Android Authority pointed out that with the BlackBerry Classic being codenamed the C25, the Passport’s kit will be nicknamed the P26.

There will be a bit of a wait in order to get the kits, as Zinwa has stated that the kits will not be available until 2026. According to Android Authority, the team behind the kits has not finished testing.

Reportedly, Zinwa hasn’t finished the internals that will replace the pre-existing hardware inside the Passport. The revived BlackBerry Classic currently sports a MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, upgraded cameras, a modern USB-C port, and a larger battery. Most likely, the revised passport will sport similar tech to this, although nothing is confirmed yet.

So far, the team has apparently been able to figure out the keyboard and screen for the device, but it was pointed out that there might still be some work to do on other components.

According to Zinwa, this kit will only work for the first generation, and the Silver edition will not be supported, possibly due to limitations surrounding the device’s availability.
