Bell to expand, enhance wireless service in over 200 communities

Bell has announced that it will expand and enhance its wireless service in 224 communities across Canada by early 2026.

Bell states that this expansion includes building new towers, upgrading infrastructure to improve connectivity, and providing customers with more reliable streaming, faster download speeds, higher quality video calls, and what Bell is calling “cutting-edge AI applications.”

According to a press release, work is already underway in urban, rural, and more northern communities.  Recently, Bell announced a joint initiative to expand the wireless infrastructure in the province of New Brunswick by adding 10 new wireless sites. Over the past decade, the company says it invested $1.1 billion in the province’s broadband and wireless infrastructure.

Since 2020, Bell says it has invested nearly $24 billion in its wireless and Pure Fibre networks to expand connectivity and enhance the service’s speed and reliability for customers. According to the press release, the telecom giant’s wireless network provides coverage to over 99 per cent of the population, with 89 per cent having access to 5G/5G+ services.

Interestingly, this announcement comes after Bell threatened to cut investments in response to a CRTC decision that opened up Bell and other incumbent fibre networks to wholesale access, allowing competitors to resell services.
