In the race to Ice Cream Sandwich, there are winners and there are losers. And the third category consists of those developers who are just tired of waiting for OEMs to release official versions. Instead, they compile builds of custom ROMs with the latest Android code and move more quickly into the future.
As we’ve spoken about many times before, CyanogenMOD is the largest open-source custom ROM on the Android platform, supporting dozens of devices across manufacturer, age and size. The latest devices to receive nightly builds of the most bleeding-edge CM9, which runs Android 4.0.3 at this time, are the Galaxy S II i9100 and both Transformer tablets, the TF101 and TF201 Prime.
As with all nightly builds, consider them pre-betas, somewhere more functional than an alpha but not quite as stable as a fully-fledged release product. Obviously, to install any of these you’ll need to have rooted and installed a custom recovery, but you knew that didn’t you?

As a bonus, there are snapshots for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi (code: p4wifi), though these are not being built nightly just yet. Consider it more a test build than anything else. Download if you dare. *Note, this is just for the WiFi version. Users with the Rogers 3G-enabled version should stay away*
