Galaxy Nexus and AOSP-based Android users can now download the new Camera and Gallery from the Nexus 4

Android 4.2 will bring with it a brand new camera interface that adapts the quick-snap menu of the former Honeycomb browser to the new photo UI. It also comes with Photo Sphere, an expanded take on panorama photos. Not only will panoramic photos be stitched together with greater precision, but they will have GPS data attached to them so users can upload them to Google+ and Google Maps.

Thanks to a dump of the Nexus 4 system files, devs at XDA-Developers have released an update.zip file that brings the new Gallery and Camera to AOSP-based devices such as the Galaxy Nexus, or any phone running CyanogenMOD 10 or AOKP. Basically, as long as you’re running a derivative of the stock Android 4.0 or 4.1 experience, you should be able to use this file.

If you include yourself in that list — and have a custom recovery installed — head to XDA-Developers to download the file. The dev is also offering the updated Android 4.2 keyboard with Google’s new “gliding” feature.
