Montreal-based PivotalPayments launches mobile payment system, available for iOS, Android or BlackBerry devices

Saturation is quickly setting in for those competing in mobile payment dongle space. There’s the recently launched and uber cool Square, plus Payfirma, Intuit’s “GoPayment,” Moneris’ ”PAYD,” and PayPal’s “PayPal Here.” Now, there’s yet another one to add to the mix.

Montreal-based Pivotal Payments has announced “PivotalMOBILE,” a card reader that you attach to your iOS, Android or BlackBerry device that allows you to accept credit card payments (Visa, MasterCard or American Express). Pivotal works just like the others by downloading an app, then monitoring your payments online. There are a couple differences to be aware of. First, the card reader costs a whopping $74, but it’s yours to keep. Others, namely Square, offers their card reader for free. Next, Pivotal takes a slightly lower percentage at 2.74%, while the standard is 2.75%.
