Pebble amasses sales over 275,000, promise to fulfil remaining Kickstarter orders this month

Despite issues with production, shipping and support, the Pebble Smartwatch is a success.

Amassing sales of over 275,000, including 190,000 non-Kickstarter pre-orders, the smartwatch is a hit with both iPhone and Android users, and developers are having a kick out of building apps with the beta SDK. There have been over one million watchapp downloads, which is a huge accomplishment from a relatively young platform.

The company updated Kickstarter backers today, outlining its intentions for the next few months. First, it will attempt to ship all remaining orders from the initial crowdfunding project, while fulfilling pre-orders for buyers who ordered watches in high-volume colours like black and red.

iOS support will also be improved with the upcoming 1.1 release, bringing native Gmail and IMAP support from the Mail.app (sorry, no third-party app support just yet). The company’s CEO said he is excited about potential applications in iOS 7, but isn’t allowed to talk about specifics until the software is publicly released.

Promising improvements to the distribution and support chain, Pebble says that it has addressed many of the pain points experienced by early adopters, and processes like RMAs and support calls should be heretofore dramatically improved.

Oh, and you can now buy replacement charging cables for $10 USD, which includes free worldwide shipping.
