Sony Xperia Z2 shipments reportedly facing delays, may be pushed back to April or May

According to the usually-reliable postings at Esato, Sony’s new flagship, the Xperia Z2, could face delays of up to a month due to component shortages. Though the tipster wouldn’t state which supplier was affected, he categorically stated it was not Qualcomm, which provides the processor and baseband chips to Sony and countless other OEMs.

Apparently, the component shortage will affect worldwide distribution of the Z2, limiting handset quantities when it does become available, likely sometime in late April or early May.

The Sony Xperia Z2 was announced at Mobile World Congress last month alongside the Z2 Tablet, successors to the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Tablet Z respectively. Sony has not indicated whether the Xperia Z2 will be coming to Canada, but the company has brought all of its recent flagships to Canada in recent years.

The company initially stated the Xperia Z2 would “launch globally from March 2014,” which is nearing the halfway mark. Of course, the delay is still unconfirmed, as March is not even half way over.
