Google updates Gmail Hangouts, now lets you pin favourite contacts

Google has announced a couple of changes for Gmail Hangouts, the desktop version of its chat and SMS application. The first of these updates will see Google shuffle online friends to the top of your contacts list, so you can more easily see who is available to chat. You’ll still be able to interact with offline contacts (they’ll get the message next time they’re at their computer or they look at their phone, like always), online contacts will just be that bit more visble.

For those of us that talk to one or two contacts multiple times a day, Gmail Hangouts now lets you pin certain contacts to the top, so you’ll see that person (or persons) on top of your list at all times. Handy if you find yourself logging on just to check if a certain someone is online.
