BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9983 announced, available in October

BlackBerry has officially unveiled the new Porsche Design P’9983, a follow-up to the upmarket P’9982 smartphone from last year.

The Porsche Design P’9983 will be available at Porsche Design stores “around the world by the beginning of October 2014.” For those in Canada, the Toronto Porsche Design usually stocks them for about $2,300.

Meant more as a status symbol than an everyday consumer device, the LTE-enabled P’9983 features “premium quality materials such as sapphire glass for the camera lens, forged stainless steel for the Porsche Design floating logo and chassis, and a special glass-weave technology for the back door.”

As for specs, this BB10 device has a 3.1-inch touchscreen 720×720 pixel display, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GB RAM, a 2100 mAh removable battery, an 8MP camera that records 1080p HD videos with a 2MP front-facing camera, and a limited edition BBM PIN.

Inside the box is a premium set of stereo headsets, an international charging kit, a polishing cloth and a USB cable. The P’9983 smartphone has several cases and custom cover plates that are made from handcrafted Italian leather available in yellow, blue green, dark brown, pomegranate, Paloma grey, salsa, blue and orange.

Juergen Gessler, CEO of the Porsche Design Group, “The Porsche Design P’9983 smartphone from BlackBerry makes a statement about its owner’s impeccable taste and drive for achievement and success, as well as discernment in making the right choices with products that help them stay on top.”
