Instagram’s Hyperlapse adds front-facing camera and iPhone 6 support, laments lack of necessary Android APIs

Hyperlapse by Instagram

Instagram’s recently released iOS time lapse video app has been updated with support for front-facing cameras. Instagram is sadly calling this feature ‘selfielapsle’, which means it is almost guaranteed to be incredibly popular with anyone born after 1990. The Hyperlapse update also now includes support for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus’ super-sized screens, eliminating the empty white space or zoomed-in photos of previous versions.

Android users eager to get in on the time lapsing action, however, may have to wait for some time for a version of Hyperlapse. In a statement released to The Verge, Instagram has indicated that the lack of requisite APIs is halting the company’s development plans. Instagram didn’t say exactly which APIs it needed to bring Hyperlapse to Android, but the ball for now is in Google’s court.

The new version of Hyperlapse should be available via the source link below later today.
