Transportation Minister: Ontario distracted driving fines could reach $1,000 and three demerit points

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne echoed this statement a number of weeks ago and called the current distracted driving laws “worrisome” and a “real problem.”

According to The Star, Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca has revived legislation that would see the charges for those caught driving while distracted pay $1000 per infraction and incur three demerit points. Del Duca said, “there is still much more work the province can do and must do” and if the bill is passed, fines that used to $60 to $500 range now start at $300 and $1,000.
