Telus announces new international roaming plans

Kyoto

Telus today announced new international roaming passes for Canadians that find themselves traveling in East Asia, India, Australia and New Zealand

The company’s basic offering, called the Text Pass 30, costs $30 and affords one 250 texts while overseas. There’s an overage rate of 50 cents per text if one goes over the 250 message limit.

Following the basic plan, there are three combo passes that include talk, text and data. There’s the Combo Pass 50, priced at $50, which includes 50 minutes of talk time, 75 texts and 150 megabytes of data usage while traveling; the Combo Pass 85 that includes 75 minutes of talk time, 150 texts and 350 megabytes of data; finally, the Combo Pass 150 plan includes 150 minutes of talk time, 300 texts and 700 megabytes of data. If you haven’t guessed already, the latter two plans cost $85 and $150, respectively. Each plan includes unlimited incoming texts.

As with the first plan, it costs 50 cents per text to send a message after going over the initial limit. Additionally, going over the call time and data limits will set someone back 50 cents per additional minute or megabyte used.

Pricing of the company’s various European travel passes were also updated today. Useable in countries such as Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom, Telus’s European Text Pass and Combo Passes now follow the same overage pricing scheme as its international travel passes. The company has also decided to be slightly more generous with these plans.

The European Text Pass includes 350 texts instead of 250 texts; the Combo Pass 85 includes an additional 25 text messages and 50 megabytes over its international counterpart; and the Combo Pass 150 includes 100 megabytes of additional data—as well as unlimited text outgoing text messages—compared to the equivalent European offering.

For the sake of comparison, Rogers, with its Roam Like Home package, offers anyone with a Share Everything plan unlimited talk, text and access to their home data plan while in 35 European countries for $10 per day.
