Microsoft confirms Windows 10 is coming to the Xbox One in November

In between announcing a surprise sequel like Halo Wars 2 and showing off gameplay footage from games like Dark Souls 3, Microsoft announced that Xbox One owners will be able to upgrade their next-generation console’s operating system to Windows 10 sometime in November.

Primarily, the new operating system will bring a new interface that focuses on speed, performance and simplicity, qualities that the current Xbox One UI most certainly does not possess. Other Windows 10 exclusive features like the integration of Cortana, Microsoft’s take on Siri and Google Now, will also be added with the upgrade. Moreover, one the marquee features that this update will bring is the ability to stream Xbox One games to compatible Windows 10 PCs and tablets.

There’s no word yet on whether people in the Xbox One’s preview program will be able to test the new operating system before it’s released to the general public.

Last week, a Microsoft executive told a South African publication that Windows 10 Mobile is set to ship in November. It’s possible that Microsoft plans to release both console and mobile iterations of its latest operating system simultaneously, or in close proximity to one another. If so, November will be a busy month for the company.
