Sony details which devices will get Android Marshmallow

Xperia M4 Aqua

Sony today announced its intention to update several of its previously released smartphones to Google’s new mobile operating system, Android Marshmallow.

The list includes the company’s upcoming trio of devices, the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium, as well as multiple devices that have made their way to Canada in the past, including the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet and Xperia M4 Aqua.

Several devices that were released outside of Canada will also receive the upgrade to Android Marshmallow, including the Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia M5, Xperia C4 and Xperia C5 Ultra.

Notably absent from the list is the Z1, which just turned two this past September.

Sony has not given a tentative date for when each device will be updated, but if past history is any indication, expect newer devices like the Z5 to receive Marshmallow before some of the older smartphones and tablets on the list do.
