Kickstarter finally launches an official Android app

Better late than never, right?

Today, crowdfunding platform Kickstarter announced the launch of an official Android app. It was first teased a year ago.

For those that don’t know, Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform designed to help people fund ideas, circumventing traditional investment routes and going straight to the source – consumers.

The app allows users to browse the platform’s latest projects — via editor’s picks and individual project categories. It’s also possible to log in to check what projects you’ve backed, as well as to keep up with other users you follow on the service.

It’s unclear why it took Kickstarter so long to launch an Android app given the company first released its iOS app in March 2013. In general, Kickstarter’s new Android application seems solid and well-designed, with Material Design elements. It’s responsive, easy to navigate, and, most importantly, gives users instant access to the crowdfunding platform directly on an Android smartphone.
