CanCon Podcast Ep. 16: How can the government help Canadian tech?

With a new government and a new mandate, Canada’s Innovation Economy is top of mind.

But, despite recent inroads, the Canadian startup community hasn’t had the greatest relationship with the federal government, begging the question of the best ways to facilitate constructive change. Should the government focus on growing the innovation pie or double down on success? Is the priority impact or activity? If decisions are made by the ones who show up, should startups get over their own cultural adulation, and learn how to speak the political language?

To answer these questions, we took the CanCon Podcast to Ottawa for Startup Canada Day on the Hill. Tune in as the CanCon podcast is taken over by special guests – Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism; Allen Lau, co-founder and CEO, Wattpad; Lauren Robinson, Global Operations Director, HIGHLINE.vc; Victoria Lennox, co-founder and CEO, Startup Canada – to talk the politics and policy of Canada’s Innovation Economy.
