Amazon files for ‘Echo Escape’ trademark in Canada

Amazon speaker

Hot on the heels of the release of the Echo Spot, Amazon’s latest smart speaker, the retail giant has filed a new trademark called ‘Echo Escape.’

It’s unclear exactly what the trademark pertains to, but it’s likely some sort of escape room-related Skill.

“Downloadable mobile applications software for physical adventure, puzzle, treasure-hunt, and strategy games; downloadable mobile applications software for developing, conducting, organizing, and hosting physical adventure, puzzle, treasure-hunt, and strategy games; downloadable mobile applications software for developing, conducting, organizing, and hosting physical adventure, puzzle, treasure-hunt, and strategy games featuring voice-controlled clues, riddles, and logic games,” reads an excerpt from the filing

A video uploaded to Amazon’s official YouTube account shows off an Amazon Echo-powered escape room experience called Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. The video was originally released back in July 2017 as a promotional experience for Jack Ryan.

It’s likely that Amazon is bringing this same Echo-centric escape room experience to Canada in some form.

Jack Ryan is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 31st.

The patent was filed on March 22nd, 2018 and has been formalized. The filing was made in Jamaica, but with proposed use in Canada, according to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).

We’ll have more on the Echo Escape when and if Amazon reveals it. That said, it’s important to keep in mind that trademark filings don’t necessarily mean a product is going to get a commercial release.
