Starbucks, Ford and more were hit with a ransomware attack impacting the ability to manage operations, such as paying employees and adjusting schedules.
The ransomware attack targeted Blue Yonder, one of the world’s biggest supply chain software providers, last week. Per the Wall Street Journal, Blue Yonder said on Monday that it was working to restore service following the attack. However, the company didn’t have a timeline for when it would restore services.
Several companies using Blue Yonder’s services were impacted as a result. That includes Starbucks, which revealed on Monday that its roughly 11,000 company-owned stores in North America were hit. The attack disrupted the coffee company’s ability to pay employees and manage schedules. Starbucks said that it would pay employees for their scheduled shifts, but that could leave some underpaid or overpaid depending on what hours they actually worked. The company said it would ensure employees are paid for all hours worked.
Given the Blue Yonder attack impacts backend operations, Starbucks locations should be open as usual.
The WSJ reported that Ford uses Blue Yonder, and the automaker is investigating whether the outage will impact its operations.
Other impacted businesses include two of the U.K.’s largest grocery chains, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons.
Blue Yonder builds software for retail and manufacturing companies to help them oversee operations. Panasonic owns the company.
