Google is now offering users an incentive in exchange for personalized ads.
According to Android Police, Google Opinion Rewards may offer more surveys to users who turn on personalized ads.
Spotted in the latest update, version 2025012701, it looks like Google might soon prompt users to turn on personalized ads, as the company added it to the app’s ‘Survey Eligibility’ section. According to screenshots from Android Police, the drop-down reads, “Enabling personalized ads qualifies you for more surveys.” It is unclear whether this is just a new server-side feature presently being rolled out or if this is toggled on.
Google’s Opinion Rewards program pays users who take a simple survey and share their feedback. Although the pay isn’t much (usually between $0.10 to $1.00), it is typically an incentive for users looking at an app or other digital media who don’t want to spend out of their own pocket.
It looks like allowing Google to share personalized data with the market researchers conducting the surveys increases the number of surveys they can send based on interests, places visited, age, etc. Google is most likely using the personalized ads format to collect the data for the researchers.
Although users are trading more of their data away, they are gaining more potential earnings from Google, which could lead to more benefits and purchases through the Google Play Store.
