Poker roguelike Balatro, made by Canadian developer LocalThunk, is now available on Xbox Game Pass.
It’s a big move for the acclaimed game, making it available to a ton of people at no additional cost. Balatro is available across Game Pass Ultimate, PC, and Standard, meaning games can enjoy it basically anywhere they can play Game Pass titles.
Alongside the Game Pass announcement, a new trailer premiered during Monday’s ID@Xbox showcase, detailing several new crossover decks coming to Balatro on all platforms. These crossover decks feature themed cards based on other games.
The new tie-ins include Canadian-made Dead by Daylight, Assassin’s Creed and Slay the Princess, as well as Critical Role, Fallout, Bugsnax and Rust. These join existing tie-ins like The Witcher 3, Vampire Survivors, and Stardew Valley.
Players can access these decks by tapping the ‘Options’ button in the main menu of Balatro, and then selecting ‘Customize Deck.’
If you haven’t picked up Balatro already, now seems like a great time to get into the game. If you’ve got Game Pass, you can try it out to see if you enjoy it how quickly you get addicted. I expect we’ll see another Balatro boost thanks to it landing on Game Pass.
This all comes off a strong start to 2025 for the game. Balatro hit 5 million copies sold in late January and then won Game of the Year, Best Game Design, and Best Debut Indie Game at the 2025 Canadian Game Awards.
