Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 on April 2, and now we’re learning more about its custom processor, which was made by Nvidia. A new blog post published by Nvidia teaches us more about the upcoming console.
The Nvidia processor features a GPU with dedicated ray tracing (RT) and Tensor cores for better visuals alongside AI enhancements.
The new RT cores offer real-time ray tracing with lifelike lighting, reflections and shadows. Further, the Tensor cores power AI-driven functionalities like Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) for sharper details without getting rid of sacrificing image quality. They also enable AI-powered face tracking and the ability to remove the background in video chats, powering features like the Switch 2’s new GameChat.
The blog post also says the Nvidia processor powers 10x better graphics performance than the original Switch. The processor’s Nvidia G-Sync also has a variable refresh rate when the device is in handheld mode.
The new console offers up to 4K gaming in TV mode and up to 120fps at 1080p in handheld mode.
