Bethesda has all but confirmed its long-rumoured remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
In a social media post, the publisher shared a cryptic image of an armoured soldier and the roman numeral “IV,” a clear reference to Oblivion. The company teased that “all will be revealed” in a stream tomorrow, April 22, at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET on its YouTube and Twitch channels. Given the swath of leaks lately, this is almost undoubtedly The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
A remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been rumoured since the highly-publicized FTC v. Microsoft legal battle over the tech giant’s then-pending acquisition of Activision Blizzard. During those proceedings, internal Microsoft documents were leaked that pointed to several unannounced games, including Oblivion Remastered.
More recently, leaked images of the game were found on ResetEra, courtesy of developer Virtuos’ website, a prolific AAA team that’s provided development support on the likes of Call of Duty, Uncharted and Horizon. Notably, the assets suggest that Oblivion Remastered is a full-blown visual overhaul more akin to a remake. It remains to be seen what sort of gameplay changes may have also been made.
In any event, Oblivion Remastered is no doubt exciting for many gamers, given that Bethesda’s original 2006 fantasy action-RPG is regarded as one of the greatest games of all time. It’s also interesting that Bethesda is revealing the game now, given that parent company Xbox’s annual summer showcase was just confirmed for June 8.
For now, though, Oblivion Remastered will surely whet fans’ appetites.
