OnePlus just announced its newest smartphone, the small(ish) OnePlus 13T, in China. We had hope for a Canadian release, but the company just confirmed it won’t happen.
In statements to The Verge, OnePlus said it had “no plans” to launch the phone in Europe or North America. However, the phone won’t be limited to China either — it will be sold in India as the OnePlus 13S.
MobileSyrup asked OnePlus about this early this week, but the company wouldn’t tell us one way or the other. But now we know it won’t come to Canada.
It’s a real bummer because, at least on paper, the OnePlus 13T looks like a really great option, especially for people who like phones on the smaller side. Granted, it’s tough to call a phone with a 6.32-inch display ‘small,’ but in the days of gargantuan smartphones, that’s about as ‘small’ as it gets.
Along with the smaller size, the 13T was slated to feature a 6,260mAh battery, a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Those specs are all quite impressive, but the battery size stands out the most. It’s a frankly massive battery, especially considering the smaller size of the 13T, which makes me think it would have been a battery champ. Couple that with 80W wired charging, and the 13T is an absolute beast.
On the camera side, the 13T will have two 50-megapixel cameras, one of which is a 2x telephoto shooter.
I’m pretty disappointed the OnePlus 13T won’t come to Canada. Unfortunately, it’s not entirely clear why the phone isn’t coming here. Canada has seen a decline in available smartphone options over the last several years as companies dropped out of the market or chose not to release devices in Canada.
